Architecture
in Andhra Pradesh ranges from pre-historic
cairns to Buddhist Stupas; Hindu and Jain
temples of great importance to
imposing churches; secular
monuments such as the
Charminar of
Hyderabad to some
of the most beautiful mosques and
Islamic tombs of India. Known as the Istanbul of India, Hyderabad boasts
of Islamic architecture such as the
Jami Masjid,
Mecca Masjid,
Toli Masjid and Hyderabad's symbol, the Charminar. The temples that line
the length and breadth of the State speak of architectural styles of
various kingdoms such as the Satvahanas, Ikshvakus, Cholas and Pallavas of
Tamil Nadu ,
the Chalukyas of Deccan, the Kakatiyas, the Eastern Gangas and the
Vijayanagar Kings. Cities of Andhra Pradesh have interesting examples of
European architecture as well as domestic vernacular architecture.
