About 25-km from
Vishakhapatnam is
Bheemunipatnam. The most important aspect of interest at the place is the
beach, which is perhaps matchless for its beauty all along the east coast.
Bheemunipatnam beach is located at the confluence of the Gosthani River
and the Bay of Bengal. It is a safe beach and one of the finest sea
resorts of India and is well known as Bheemli. It is a usual resort for
sea bathers as it is free from dangerous depths and sharks.
Nearer
the sea and facing the flagstaff is a well-equipped round bungalow, which
is said was originally the Vizianagaram Raja's resort. The view of the
seascape from the verandah of the bungalow is captivating. This place was
an important port in olden days. It has a lighthouse and it is a minor
port though it is seldom used now. There is a Dutch cemetery called
Hollanders Green, which overlooks the ocean.
A Touch Of Colonial Era
The evidence of the British presence in Bheemunipatnam can be seen from
the 19th century clock tower and the church of St' Peter. Bheemunipatnam
is undoubtedly a place of holiday resort. The journey from Vishakhapatnam
to this beach is exhilarating.
