Andhra
Pradesh was once the site of a flourishing Buddhist culture. It is
famed for its Buddhist influence that attained glorious heights during the
Satavahana reign. The remnants of Buddhist cult can be seen in the many
magnificent carvings, chaityas, viharas, murals, sculptured panels, which
are considered even today as the greatest works of Indian art. In the
State the Buddhist Centres flourished at
Nagarjunakonda,
Amaravati,
Sankara,
Bhattiprolu,
Guntupalli,
Ghantasala,
Salihundam,
Chandavaram,
Anupu, and other
places.
