Burrakatha is a very famous narrative folk
art form of Andhra
Pradesh. This form was most extensively used creative medium in
olden days. Burrakatha is a folk dance form where it combines all
significant aspects of ballad types of Andhra Pradesh and presents itself
as a recreated model. It derived its name from "Burra' the instrument
used during the narration.
This
folk form has perfected by fusing the dramatic and narrative elements with
music and humour. The team consists of three narrators, usually dressed in
colourful clothes. The main narrator co-ordinates with narration,
description, explanation etc. while the assistants provides rhythm with a
small drums and chorus.
