Tappeta Gullu is a devotional and lively
dance form performed by the men folk mostly in the three north coastal
districts of Srikakulam,
Vizianagaram
and Vishakhapatnam.
It
was originally performed by and shepherds as a ritualistic dance to
propitiate the Rain Goddess, Gangamma. Eventually, it evolved into a major
festival and processional dance form. Tappeta Gullu is performed on
different occasions and on different festivals. A group of 15-20 people
perform this dance with drums around their necks, creating mesmerising
beats and with heart stopping acrobatics.
