Andhra
Pradesh provides a montage of architectural styles, replete with
astonishing sculpture and splendid edifices, left behind by dynasties of
yore. Surviving architectural monuments of Andhra Pradesh are the
souvenirs of her glorious past. The largest numbers of Buddhist relics
excavated in south India are confined to the eastern districts of Andhra
Pradesh lying between the rivers Vamsadhara close to the southern borders
of Orissa in the
north and Pennair to the north of the Tamil country in the south. The
numerous 'Stupas' and associated 'Viharas' and 'Chaitya' halls are located
in the sheltered valleys of the hills on the lower reaches of the
Vamsadhara, the Godavari and the Krishna and their affluents.
