Pocharam wildlife sanctuary is located on
the shores of Pocharam Lake and is named after it. It is 120-km away from
Hyderabad , in
Medak district. It extends over an area of 130-sq-km and lies between
Medak and Nizamabad districts.
In 1952 the Nizam of Hyderabad State, because of its richness in floral
and faunal composition declared this area as wildlife sanctuary.
The
Animal & Bird Life
The habit of this wild animal sanctuary is southern tropical dry
deciduous with predominantly teak and its associates. Small water pools
are found in the sanctuary, undulating with low hills. Large flocks of
migratory birds like Bar-headed goose, Brahminy ducks, Painted storks etc
are attracted towards the lake in the sanctuary.
Animals like Leopard, Jungle Cat, Wild Dog, Wolf, Jackal, Sloth Bear,
Sambar, Nilgai, Chinkara, Chital, Four-Horned Antilope are mainly found
here. The floral composition consists of Teak, Nallamaddi, Garuga, Tirman,
Satin, Mohwa, Chirongii, Chennangi, and Abnus etc.

is at Hyderabad .
Road: Tourists can take buses from Hyderabad and Medak.
