The
hills in Assam, particularly the North Cachar Hills
and Karbi Hills are ready to receive tourists for
Trekking and Mountaineering. There is also
a rock hill in Morigaon District known as "Elephant Rocks",
which offer ample scope for rock climbing.
The Simhasana Hill of Karbi Anglong is also famous for rock climbing. The
main city of Assam, Guwahati,
is surrounded on three sides with very good hills for adventure.
Assam is also famous for trekking. North Cacher Hills and Karbi Hills provide ample scope for trekking. There is a recognised trekking route in both the districts.
The hilly terrain offers very good challenge to Mountain Bikers. The Tourism Department in collaboration with the Assam Tourism Development Corporation and other adventure organisations has organised several bicycle and motorbike rallies in and outside the state. Several foreign groups including individual tourists have visited the state by mountain bike.
A
totally new sport, Para-sailing, has been introduced by Assam Tourism
Development Corporation to attract domestic and foreign tourists. The
ideal place for Para-sailing is near Guwahati.
The state also has very good scope for Hang Gliding. The ideal places for Hang Gliding are Kamakhya Hills and hills around Kaziranga.
There are 21 golf courses in Assam,
out of which 15 are south of River
Brahmaputra. Most of these
golf clubs are run by the tea estates and are astride national highway 37
between Guwahati and
Digboi. Numerous tea gardens of
Assam have 9 and 18 hole golf courses along with
airstrips attached to them. Of late, golf is also regarded as adventure

These Golf courses along national highway are within 50-km of each other and most of the golf clubs have membership within 25-km radius. All the golf courses are of generally 9 holes with a golf hut and changing facilities. But the Digboi Golf Course, which is 18 holes, has better facilities and a separate, well-run club and provides accommodation as well. The golf courses are also within reasonable distance of existing airports.
