Legend & Ritual
Ambubasi Mela (fair) is held every year during monsoon at
Kamakhya temple of
Guwahati. This mela is associated with the
legend of menstrual cycle of the Goddess Kamakhya. This is purely a ritual
of Tantric cult.
During Ambubasi the temple remains closed for three days and on the
fourth day only devotees are allowed for worship inside the temple.
Thousands of devotees from all over India visit this mela.
