Mandvi
beach is one of the finest beaches in Gujarat and
also in India and is also a historic port town of the Maharao of
Kachchh. It is situated 60 kms away from
Bhuj . The
seawater is blue and perfect for swimming.
The port of Mandvi was an important sea
trade post between the near east and the far east, and brought
considerable prosperity to the royal family of Kachchh.
Mandvi town was important to the Maharaos as their capital city of
Bhuj, and they endowed it with some splendid
palaces and buildings. The Vijay Vilas Palace built in the 1940's depicts
some splendid architectural features like umbrella domes and cupolas etc.
Gujarat Tourism is now promoting the prettiest of the beaches. Mandvi
beach has lovely blue waters, lots of birds, sandy beaches and colourful
fishing points. Next to the beach are the docks where wooden ships are
built. In the town one can see numerous old buildings, handicrafts like
silverware, kutchi embroideries etc.
