Located in sector 16, this garden was created in 1967 AD, under the expert
guidance of Dr M.S. Randhawa,
Chandigarh 's
first Chief Commissioner, and is named after India's President, Zakir
Hussain.
This is the largest Rose Garden in Asia and is spread over an area of 27
acres. 17,000 plants representing some 1,600 varieties of roses as well as
several fountains can be found here. The annual Rose festival, an event
listed on the national calendar of fairs and festivals takes place here.
This is one of the main cultural events of the city and draws thousands of
visitors. The Zakir Rose Garden is open on all days.
