Popularly
known as Shimla's playground, Annadale is situated
at an altitude of 1,864m and is 2.5-km from the Ridge. It is the favourite
spot for cricket, picnics and the princely game of polo. Bir Billing in
Kangra Valley is the focal
point for aerosport enthusiasts and is counted among the world's best
sites for Para
Gliding and Hang-Gliding.
Manali and its surrounding areas have
also got excellent oppurtunities for para gliding. The Manali
Mountaineering Institute of Allied Sports and its regional centres at
Dharamsala,
Bharmour and Jispa organise challenging
expeditions of Mountaineering in various parts of the state. There are
some of the best terrains for
Rock-Climbing,
situated at Patalsu, Bharmour and
Manali , fine places for rock-climbing
enthusiasts. The lower regions of Kangra,
Una, Hamirpur
and Bilaspur offer some gentle routes
for Mountain Cycling but tracts of Lahaul,
Spiti and
Kinnaur are no less interesting for the
bikers. Camping is definitely the best way to enjoy the natural wilderness
of Himachal and tents are available for campers
at Sangla,
Kalpa in
Kinnaur and Kalpa in
Spiti.
