The magnificent valley of Kashmir has a chequered and eventful career throughout history. Though strongly protected by formidable ranges of snow-clad mountains on all sides with a few difficult mountainous ranges, it was not destined to remain isolated. Beside the natural splendour one can find certain specific sites being the sole example of Kashmir's ancient ruling dynasties. The temples of Avantipur are one such example; even in their ruins the sculptures and appearance can astonish anybody.
