The
storybook scenery of the vale of Kashmir has been legendary throughout
history, but few outside the Indian subcontinent are aware that the state
of Jammu and Kashmir combines three distinct areas, each unique
physically, culturally and aesthetically. Not only do the people in Jammu,
Kasmir and Ladakh region live in radically different environments; they
also possess a very distinct cultural heritage. This diversity enhances
the mystery of the remote mountain valleys and flavours the cultural
complexities of busy urban centers.
