For
trekking, Himalayan range should be the focus in the northern most state
of India, J&K,
where the trekking season roughly starts from July to mid October, August
and September being the ideal months. The altitude variations in the state
ranges from 9,000 feet to 14,500 feet above sea level, so trekkers should
prepare themselves with a reasonable degree of physical fitness even if
they do not have any prior experience. In
Ladakh , the lowest
altitude is 11,000 feet above sea level, and with shortage of oxygen,
acclimatization is compulsory. Some passes commonly encountered during a
trek in this region being as high as 18,000 feet above sea level.
