Hundru Falls, 45km northeast off the Purulia road, near
Ranchi, is one of the most picturesque of the
many waterfalls. Absolutely enchanting and captivating, the waterfall is
truly dramatic especially towards the end of monsoons when the river is at
its rampageous best. One can witness its awesome beauty, against the
backdrop of the red wooded hills.
Bringing to the fore the bounty of the nature, the wonderful scene
created by the water falling from an astounding height of 320 kms is
bewitching. At the base of the Swarnarekha River, from where the waterfall
originates, is a beautiful pool, which allows the visitors to take a good
bath. A staircase descends to the bottom of the falls, where several pools
are good for swimming.
It is a popular picnic spot and the sight of the cascading river is a
not-to-be -missed one, especially in monsoon or when the wind sets in
motion.
Negotiating the edge of the plateau, the road passes through densely
forested tribal country then disintegrates as it approaches the small
complex above the falls.
The Tourism Department of Jharkhand occasionally runs tours out here,
though the place is not on a bus route.
