Nanak Jhera, situated near Ali Barid's Tomb
in Bidar where a road dips down the
plateau towards the north is an imposing Gurudwara built by the Sikhs.
The famous Nanak Jhera, the largest Sikh temple in Karnataka, carries the
tale that Guru Nanak - the first guru of the Sikhs visited this place and
got rid of the scarcity of drinking water in the region.
A popular spot is the Sikh temple, Guru Nanak Jhera, where fresh crystal
clear spring water appears from nowhere.
Legend
Legend has it that Guru Nanak visited the place while the land was in the
grip of a famine. The guru performed a miracle at the request of the
suffering humanity and a spring burst forth and to this day water flows
out of the laterite trap.
Sikh pilgrims flock to Nanak Jhera all the year round. A visit while the
sacred hymns are being sung by the 'ragi' can be most edifying.
