The Karanji Lake located at the footsteps of
Chamundi Hills is spread over an area of 90 acres. One of the biggest
lakes in Karnataka, the lake affords an enchanting view of the Lalitha
Mahal Palace.
Many species of migratory birds have made the lush vegetation at the zoo
their breeding site, which is largely attributable to the rich herbage and
tiny marshy islands provided by the lake.
Karanji Lake, a protected area under the Mysore Zoo authorities, has the
Chamundi hills as the backdrop that accentuate the charm and tranquility
of the atmosphere.
A butterfly park housing a plethora of plant species to attract
butterflies has been set up in Karanji Lake by the Zoo authorities on an
experimental basis.
