Located at Ramakrishna Nagar about 7 kms
from Mysore,
Lingambudi Lake is the biggest and the oldest lake in Mysore.
The lake was built by Krishnaraja Wodeyar III in 1828 AD in memory of his
wife, Lingajammanni. The lake spread over an area of 260 acres is being
conserved and developed by the Forest Department.
Lingambudi Lake is known for its wide species of birds and bio-diversity,
with nearly 250 species of birds visiting the lake during the season
including a few endangered species like spot-billed pelican, Indian
darter, pin tailed duck, shoveller and garganey.
The 'Herbal Park', a unique feature of the lake has been
of much interest to the research students and scholars. At the lake, there
are shelters known as the 'Pergolla', for the purpose of shade and
relaxation.
Boating and other recreational activities are not allowed at the lake to
maintain the quiet atmosphere for migratory birds. A side-walk at the lake
provides a good opportunity to the visitor to take a walk.
