Located in
Hampi, behind the
Elephants' Stables, Singarada Hebbagilu is one of the most massive and
oldest gateways in the capital city.
It is a huge gateway called 'Singarada Hebbagilu' or the 'beautiful door'
because of its beautiful architecture, which is evident in each and every
stone that has gone into its making. The gate, according to an inscription
that has been discovered near it, was the main entrance to the city.
There are two temples within the gateway as well. Now in a state of
dilapidation, the gateway is being restored to its former splendour, so
that it can truly bear its ancient name.
