Maharashtra
is known for its caves. During the course of explorations a large number
of sites representing various periods from Lower Paleolithic Age to the
medieval times have been discovered. Archaeological remains that are
significantly influenced by ideas and interpretations proposed by the
early prominent scholars developed this area's archaeological record into
one of international importance. The most famous caves that are given
privilege as World Heritage Sites, Ajanta
and Ellora are found in
Maharashtra - located just a few kilometres away from the city of
Aurangabad .
Other important caves are Karla caves, Bahaja caves, Bedsa caves, and
Pataleshwar caves, which offer a wonderful experience to the visitor.
