Kandhar town in Nanded district is
famous for its fort, which is situated in the heart of town. Its
construction is attributed to the Rashtrakuta King Krishna III of Malkhed
who styled himself as Kandharpuradhi Swar. Encircling the fort is a ditch
filled with water.
The ruins of this majestic and historic fort are located at a distance of
50 kilometres from the Ranthambhore National Park.
At some distance from the fort is a hillock on which is
situated an old Idgah held in reverence by the Muslims. It is of
Nizamshahi period with two domes in characteristic Ahmadnagar style.
Some of the most interesting areas of the Ranthambhore National Park lie
close to the Khandhar Fort. On route there are very interesting
landscapes, temples and villages.
