Tansa Lake is located in Thane
district in Konkan region of Maharashtra. The lake
is the main source of water supply for the city of
Mumbai and has a
capacity to store 3 million gallons of water. It supplies 300 thousand
gallons of water every day to Mumbai through specially laid pipelines. It is
a pleasant place for a daylong excursion.
The glittering expanse of Tansa Lake is an eye-catching spectacle and also
a perennial source of water to wild life in the Tansa Sanctuary. Being not
far from the metropolis of Mumbai, the lake bids fair to be of great
attraction to its citizens. It is a very pleasant place surrounded by
natural beauty.
Other than the lake, the dense wooded forests of Tansa sanctuary, the famous historical fort of Mahuli, Mahadeo Temple at Tilsa and the plateau of Suryamal are of great attraction for visitors from Mumbai , Thane and adjoining region.

Rail: Nearest railway station is at Atgaon at a distance of 13-km
on the central railway. Taxis are available at Atgaon railway station.
Road: From the city of Mumbai the lake is at a distance of about
90-km and can be accessed by road from Shahapur town located on
Mumbai-Agra National Highway No.3.
