Alandi is a small village located 22-km away from
Pune , on the banks
of the river Indrayani, which is one of the important pilgrim centres of
Maharashtra. Alandi houses the 'samadhi' of Sant
Dnyaneshwar's who is the author of "Dnyaneshwari" He lived in
Alandi and attained samadhi at a tender age of 21.
Other places worth visiting are Siddhabet in Indrayani and Temple of
Vithoba-Rakhumai. Annually two melas (fairs) are held on Ashadhi and
Kartiki Ekadashi, the eleventh days of Ashadh and Kartik (Hindu months).
During this time devotees sing 'bhajans' and 'kirtans' in praise of the
Lord all night.
