Shegaon is a town located in Khamgaon Tehsil near
Nagpur, housing the Samadhi of Shri
Gajanan Maharaj - a mystic saint as popular as Saibaba of
Shirdi. It is a very
famous and most sacred places in Maharashtra.
Shegaon is a relatively small place, which has a very good park and even
an Engineering College, which is run by the Shegaon Mandir Prathisthan
people.
One can find " Gan Gan Ganath Bote ", a mantra written on many
temple walls, enchanted by Bhavikas (followers) of saint Shree Gajanan
Maharaj. This temple is the main centre of attraction and people from all
over Maharashtra and even neighbouring states throng these place to pay
homage to this saint.
It is also described as the Pandharpur of Vidarbha. Thousands of devotees
pay their respects at the Samadhi every Thursday, which is regarded as a
special day. In the premises of the shrine there is a temple dedicated to
Shri Ram.
Every person visiting the mandir is given "Bhakri and Jhunka" a typical Maharashtrian food as prasad.
Ram Navami in Chaitra and on Rushi Panchami in Bhadrapada month of the Hindu calendar are celebrated with great religious fervour.
Air: The nearest airport is
Nagpur.
Rail: Shegaon has a railway station on the
Mumbai -Calcutta
route, few trains pass through this station but is advisable to travel by
road which is very convenient to the tourists.
Road: Shegaon is connected to all to all important places, buses
ply daily from Mumbai, Pune, Akola ,Amravati tom Shegaon.
