Mahurgad is a pilgrim centre of great significance. Famous
as the Third Shaktipeeth in Maharashtra, Muhurgad is
popularly known as Mahur. It is located in Nanded
district.
Goddess Renuka Devi temple is situated on a hillock at a distance of
about 2.5 kms from the village of Mahur. It is believed that the temple
has been constructed by a Yadava king of Devgiri about eight or nine
hundred years ago. Mahurgad is well known as the birthplace of Lord
Dattatray, which is visited by thousands of devotees throughout the year.
As per tradition, Lord Dattatreya was born at Dattashikhar in Mahur.
Annually a very big fair is held on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami (Dusshera).
Air: Nearest Airport is Nagpur,
200-km away from Mahurgad.
Rail: The nearest railhead is Kinwat, 50-km but Nanded, 126-km is
the more convenient railhead on South Central Railway.
Road: State transport service buses are available regularly, which
make the visit to this place very much convenient. Buses ply from Nanded,
Kinwat and Yawatmal. Bus service is available up to Dattashikhar also.
Accommodation is available in the M.T.D.C. rest house and Dharamshalas and rooms let by local people.
