This temple situated in the heart of the city houses the
most famous deity of Maharashtrians, the Ganesh. Dagdusheth Ganapati is
the famous and richest deity of Pune and so it is called the 'Shreemant'
Dagdusheth (Shreemant means rich in Marathi language).
The temple is situated at the intersection of two roads in Mandai, the
vegetable market of Pune
. It is believed that this particular idol is said to have fulfilled the
wishes of many devotees who then donated huge sums of money. There is a
huge marquee put up here during the Ganesh festival and the idol of Lord
Ganesh, which is seven and a half feet tall and four feet wide is
decorated with colours, coconuts and lights.
