Dagdu Halwai Datta Mandir is a famous temple of Pune located
in the city area of Budhwar Peth on the famous Laxmi Road as well as near
the Mahata Phule market, which is popularly known as Mandai.
Large number of devotees visits this temple and they offer their prayers.
Pujas are performed twice daily. It is believed that the main deity i.e.
Dattatreya fulfils all the wishes of his devotees. Some people approach
this temple with a wish of getting a child, some for employment, some for
fixation of marriages and for business progress and many others for solace
and tranquillity of mind.
It is believed that about 100 years ago one pious lady in the Pune city
late Shrimiti Laxmibai. Dagdu Halwai, installed a Datta Temple as per the
advice of her Guru viz. Shri Madhavnath of Indore, who was a great devotee
of Lord Gurudatta.
It is a very old temple and the unique feature of this
temple is that it faces North direction. As per the Vastushastra, North
direction is always considered to be the direction of 'Kubera' and the
God, who is facing North, gives blessings to the devotees from that
direction.
Several special poojas are performed on Thursdays, which attract a great
number of people. The temple is open from early morning and the devotees
visit the temple for worship even till 10.00 to 11.00 pm.
