Road
Busses both Government and Private and Taxis ply regularly from
Shillong and
Guwahati
, and most parts of the Garo hills are negotiable through day-trips from
Shillong. Conducted tours are available through M.T.D.C. as well as
private operators, between Shillong and Tura.
The Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation's Orchid Lodge is at Dakopgre. Youth Hostel at Wandanang and other privately run hotels are all located centrally. There is Circuit House at Tura for which booking is made through the Deputy Commissioner, Tura.

South-West monsoon and seasonal winds, largely controls the climate of the district. The West Garo Hills district being relatively lower in altitude to the rest of Meghalaya, experiences a fairly high temperature for most part of the year. The average rainfall is 330cms of which more than two-thirds occur during the monsoon, winter being practically dry. The district have mostly dense tropical mixed forest, and a small patch of temperate forest in the higher parts of the Tura range.
