Meghalaya's hilly terrain with varied elevation and heavy rainfall account for a rich variety of flora and fauna. The most famed are the beautiful butterflies and exotic orchids. Hornbils, Clouded Leopards, Golden Cats and Golden Langurs are some of its unique wildlife. The Khasi hills boast with the age old Sacred Forests, many of which preserved to this day by traditional religious sanction.
