Airways
The main domestic airport is situated at the capital city of
Bhubaneswar
and there are taxis and auto rickshaws available that cover the 2-3km
journey to the center. Bhubaneswar is served by Indian Airlines and other
subsidiary airlines.
Railways
Located on the main
Calcutta
-Chennai line of the South Eastern Railways. The Dhauli Express is a
convenient train from Calcutta (Howrah), taking approximately 7hrs and 20
min for the journey. Other important trains include Neelanchal Express &
Kalinga Utkal Express from New
Delhi ; Falaknuma Express from Secunderabad; Konark Express &
East Coast Express from
Hyderabad
and Coromandal Express from Chennai as well as Rourkel-Hirakud Express
from Rourkela.
Roadways
Orissa State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC), other state transport
buses and private buses link the state with the neighbouring states. There
are deluxe services as well as sleeper services also available to
Calcutta, Rourkela, Bijapur and Vishakhapatnam. The main bus stand is
located at Baramunda, 5-km from Bhubaneswar. Taxis, Auto rickshaws,
cycle-rickshaws and local bus services are also available.
Waterways
An all-weather, sheltered, deep-draft port has been constructed at
Paradeep at the mouth of
Mahanadi River.
This port has become an important departing point for the state's exports,
especially coal.
