Sikhism,
the youngest of the world religions, is barely five hundred years old. Its
founder, Guru Nanak, was born in 1469. Guru Nanak spread a simple message
of "Ek Ong Kar": we are all one, created by the one creator of
all creation. Though young it is considered to be the religion with a
modern outlook and progressive of all the religions.
Sikh religion is characterized by simple living, devoid of rituals,
superstitions and a strong sense of unity among its believers. Though
spread across whole of India, Sikhism has a strong presence in Punjab.
Sikhism had a tradition of Gurus who guided the community but this
tradition ended with Guru Govind Singh -the tenth and last Guru of the
community. There are many important Gurudwaras spread all across the
country. One can see magnificent Gurudwara even in places like Bangalore,
Chennai, or Kolkatta, but among them Anandpur Shahib, Golden Temple, and
Gurudwara Bangla Shabib are the most visited places.
