Monasteries
can be found in plenty within India, but there is something unique about
the monasteries that are influenced by the Trans
Himalayan Buddhist culture. This
is one of the reasons why monasteries such as Rumtek and Pemayangtse are
considered to be the most sacred monastic pilgrimage centres by Buddhist
followers. Pemayangtse
is one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim with
the most unique wooden sculpture that depicts different realms in the
universe. Visit the monastery of Rumtek, the seat of Kugya-pa sect. The
third sacred Buddhist site is the Tashiding monastery, situated on a cone
shaped hill with the backdrop of the Mt.
Kanchenjunga.
