
The Kalvarayan hills are situated 150-km north west of
Chidambaram on the western
side of Kallakurichi Taluk (also spelt as Taluka). Spread over an area of
600-sq-kms. approximately with the height ranging from 315mts. to
1,190mts. these hills offer a temperate climate and quiet solicitude.
There is a botanical garden on the hills. There are two waterfalls here.
The area is ideal for trekking. Before going on a trek carry a sleeping
bag, drinking water, warm clothes, medicines and any food supplies for an
emergency.
Air: The nearest airport is at
Trichy.
Rail: The nearest convenient railway station is
Chidambaram on the
Chennai-Trichy
meter-gauge line, which is connected to the temple towns of
Rameswaram, Thanjavur, and Kumbakonam.
Road: Regular buses are available from
Chidambaram
Trekkers can accommodate themselves in the nearby local village, but for a convenient stay one can stay at the hotels in Chidambaram.
