The
Hussainabad Tower, located in
Lucknow , is one
of the finest examples of British architecture in India.
It was built by the Hussainabad Endowment Trust in 1887, to mark the
arrival of Sir George Cooper, the first Lieutenant Governor of the United
Province of Awadh.
The 20 ft square tower rises to a height of 221 ft. Built of gunmetal,
the components of the tower were imported from Luigate Hill, London.
Principal wheel of the clock is one and a half inches thick and has a
diameter of 2 ft, which makes it larger than the Westminister Clock.
