One
of the panch kedars, the temple of Madmaheswar is located at an altitude
of 3289m above sea level, on the slope of of a ridge, 25 kms north east of
Guptkashi. At Madmaheshwar, Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of belly.
The trek from Kalimath to Madmaheshwar is distinguished by wild
unparalleled scenic beauty and engulfed by Chaukhamba,
Kedarnath and Neelkanth peaks. Gaundhar is the
last settlement before one reaches Madmaheshwar. The best statue of Har
Gauri in India, measuring over a metre in height is found in the Kali
Temple.
